News and Announcements
Dear Parents and Seniors,
I met with the Class of 2017 today to share that the State of Maine requires seniors to attend school 170 days. In order to meet this requirement we need to make up lost time. We did not want to bring students into school on a Saturday or over the April break. We also wanted to avoid moving graduation as that would be a logistical nightmare. We also want the time to be used in a meaningful way. Seniors have to make up a total of 15 hours in order to meet this requirement. Students can meet this requirement in a variety of ways (Please see the attached plan).
Mrs. Drouin, Principal of Alfred and Lyman Elementary Schools would be more than happy to have 10-15 seniors come from 2 to 3 to help tutor students and much more. In fact, I am sure any of our elementary principals would be happy to host our students. Please contact an elementary principal by email if you are interested. Mrs. Sawyer will be supervising seniors that want to participate in community service as well on April 14th, please contact her if you are interested. If students are doing community service for this plan it will also count towards service hours for graduation. If you are interested in the Everfi course, please submit that in your plan and Mrs. Pellegrino will contact you with the registration code and times she will be available should you need assistance.
I have attached the options that students can choose from along with the supporting documents. Students should put a plan together and submit it to their advisor by the end of the week. Please contact your child's advisor if you have any questions. I would like to thank all of the seniors for their positive attitude today when I presented this plan. They have truly made me proud for the way they handled themselves.
