Updates for all MHS Parents/Guardians:
Winter Weather information about procedures for school closure due to unsafe weather conditions are distributed each year. The practice of RSU#57 will be to keep our schools in session and on schedule unless conditions warrant otherwise. Click HERE to learn where cancellation announcements will be broadcast.
RSU #57 Empower Parent Review Meeting will be held this coming Tuesday, November 3rd from 6-7pm. Scott Bacon from Empower (the RSU 57 Learning Management Program) will be online to share the proposed updates to the parent page in Empower. Parents attending will see a demonstration of the "new look" and will be encouraged to use the parent page for a couple of weeks to provide feedback to us on the ease of use and understanding of the content. Your feedback is necessary for our regular communication of your child's progress. We hope you attend and appreciate your feedback. Please call Lisa Dearborn at 247-3221 x2209 if you have any questions. Thank you!
Students that are staying after school with a teacher for additional help and take the late bus, are not to leave campus and then return to take the late bus. Because of the safety concerns leaving presents, leaving campus is an automatic 2 days ISAS.
The Student Tech Help Desk would like to announce its release of its technology blog. You can access the blog using this link: http://rsu57techdesk.blogspot.com/ Please check out their first post.
Do you have ideas for topics you would like to see us blog about? If so email us using this address: email@example.com. The help desk is open to help staff and students and is located in the new Help Desk room in the library. If they can't solve your problem right away they will find the answer. These students will help with websites, learning about Google and much more. Special thanks to all students manning our new Help Desk!
Picture Re-Takes for Students will be in the morning on Friday, November 13th in MHS Library.
Please Remember Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 10th from 2:00-6:15pm. Conferences are a great opportunity for increasing communication in support of student success. The new on-line signup system appears to be working well with comments we have heard about the system as follows:
“I love the new sign up system! I just used it...without a hitch! Great job!”
“Wow, that was easy! So much better than the back-and-forth that used to happen! A great improvement to the paper system.”
If you know of someone who doesn’t have access to email or the internet, please them know to call our Guidance Office to arrange a time. Thanks!

MHS Department Highlights
The 21st Century Survival Skills Class has completed several research and public speaking activities as they work through their communication segment. They are currently working on how to bridge communication gaps.
The Technology Life Skills class has been learning measurement along with the use of various hand tools and fasteners. They are currently putting these skills to good use making wall shelves, as it’s never too early to craft presents for Christmas!
The Introduction to Industrial Technology classes have busy learning the basics of drafting and have drafted a set of plans for production of an item in the woods lab. With proper and safe use of the equipment they are producing an item. In the graphics lab our students have produced audio commercials and are in the design and production of memo pads.
Our Photography students are finishing up their “Composition” slide shows and are burning them to disc. Students are gathering up old photographs for their “My Life” slideshow project and are learning how to use scanners to make digital copies of their photographs.
MHS Music Sucess
Many students within the music department have been working hard over the last several weeks preparing for their District and All-State Auditions. During the district auditions students are asked to prepare a selected piece of music on their musical instrument or with their voice and perform it in front of a judge. Students are also asked to perform scales and do sight reading. Top scores from around the district are then chosen to perform in the Southern Maine District Festival in January. This year we were fortunate to have over 40 students dedicate their efforts to this task. We are proud to announce that 20 students have been chosen to take part in this year’s Festival.
