Thinking about using a loan to help pay for college?  Use the following calculator to determine the amount to borrow!  Researching options available to pay for college take’s time. Just as researching colleges to find the best fit was important, it's important to select the best borrowing option based on your future plans and income. It is a good idea to calculate your anticipated earnings compared to your expected total student loan indebtedness. Use FAME's Salary/Student Loan Debt Calculator to estimate how much student loan debt might be affordable based on your circumstances.

Materials from Financial Aid Information Night

MHS Guidance hosted a Financial Aid Information night this past Wednesday. Resources from the presentation can be found at http://bit.ly/1HHPt5Z. Additional information can be found at the Financial Authority of Maine (FAME) website.

Student Spotlight

Our Marine Bio students were amazing on their field trip before Thanksgiving and represented MHS with distinction! They were very attentive, respectful and had a great time learning all about invertebrates at UNE while also trying to identify some on the beach.  Super job!

MHS Chamber Singers performed at the Lions Club for their annual Holiday luncheon this past Wednesday, sharing several wonderful sounds!  Don’t miss their concert coming up on December 17th at 7pm!

Mariah Arral maintained a 4.0 in her first year at UNH! Way to go!

Jolena Lampron, a 2014 MHS Graduate who is currently a sophomore at UNE has been selected to play Lacrosse for Team USA this summer in the UK. Way to go Jolena!

MHS Department Highlights

Special Education Department

Our Life Skills classroom recently went to the Alfred Food Shelter to help package Thanksgiving meals for  families in our community.  Our students had a great time sorting food and placing them into boxes.  Students will also be participating in a lot of festive activities for the holidays such as making and selling candles, offering gift wrapping services for staff who need some extra help and organizing for their annual holiday party for parents/guardians and staff that the students work with.

Other students took a trip to Shawnee Peak with students from the middle school.  Students cleaned up the mountain before the season by raking, filed paperwork, cleaned rooms, and painted a shed among other things.  They will be getting ski passes for their help.  MHS students were very helpful and respectful making “Mustang Nation” proud!  Great job!

MATH Department News

Students are finishing the last few units in part A of each of their math courses. The Concentrated Math 2 classes are working on parallel lines and angles and will be building and decorating gingerbread house villages with particular geometry parameters to demonstrate their knowledge with real examples.  Algebra 1 classes have completed a unit of study on solving multi-step equations and are heading into a unit on the basics of functions.  Geometry students are deep in their study of formal proofs and Algebra 2 is using technology to solve quadratic equations after learning the vocabulary and key features of parabolas.
