Our “new” Girls Volleyball team finished their last tournament pool 2-2, having beat Thorton Academy and Portland. Our girls left everything on the court. As the energy & grit they played with was inspiring. Many compliments were received from other coaches about our team. At the start of the tournament everyone was wondering who we were, but by the end of the day they all were talking about us! They made Mustang Nation proud!!! Well done ladies!
Congratulations go to the NJROTC Special Teams for their superior performance in the greater New England all Navy Drill League this past Saturday at MHS. Our Massabesic Cadets performed extremely well, with the following performances especially noteworthy:
Personnel Inspection - 2nd place led by Senior Mackenzie Croteau
Unarmed Regulation - 3rd place led by Junior Mikaela Callahan
Color Guard - 3rd place led by Junior Grady Connolly
Well done to ALL Cadets!! Horrah!!!
MHS Department Highlights
Our Katahdin Team has had a smooth start to the year as we all get to know each other within our teams. Freshman teams are working on Restorative Justice circles in their history classes and hope to start implementing them across all content areas soon. Restorative Justice circles are designed to help students feel like they have a voice on team and that their voice is being heard. We will use them to continue to get to know each other as well as work out any team issues that arise. Several of our content areas are just starting to get to the first big assessments of the year, so keep an eye on Empower over the next couple of weeks. If you have any questions or concerns about what is showing up on Empower, feel free to email your child's teachers or sign up to meet with teachers during conferences on November 10th.
Sugarloaf team has a monthly meeting with their students to recognize academic and non-academic achievements such as recognition for community service, trophies for scholar/athletes, and other prizes for accomplishments made outside of school. We also have people from different MHS clubs come to talk about what they do. We also sometimes do team building exercises using Project Adventure activities. The Sugarloaf students nominated 4 team leaders for this year: Hayden Zielinski, Ethan Laverriere, Caitlyn Hall, and Dilan McEneaney. Our next meeting is Friday, October 30th.
Students enrolled in Spanish 4 are working on projects that focus on Pope Francis’ visit to
the US. Students were expected to have their group discussion completely in Spanish.
Classes are raising awareness and celebrating the Day of the Dead on Nov 1st. This is an old tradition
that focuses on the family and ancient customs with all levels of spanish and MHS participating.
All French classes are off to a great start this year!!! French I students have just
completed a COGNATES and CULTURE project. Their end products are "magnifique"
and will be displayed at parent conferences in November. French II classes are
learning all about food and will be writing and presenting AU RESTAURANT skits in
the near future. French III and IV students are using all that they have learned in
levels I and II to read stories, plays and immerse themselves in the language. Très
bien tout le monde!
