Congratulations go to – Alyssa Wardwell for being named by Peter Geiger, State Board of Education
Chair, to join the Career Technical Education Committee for the State of Maine! Wow!
Our end of the trimester – Will look a little different than in past years. This past Thursday I met with
each class to review the MHS Work Habits, the need for our student body to continue their efforts at
meeting and/or exceeding school expectations (as we come down the stretch), along with our plan for the
end of the Fall Trimester. As shared with students:
- Our Trimester will end on Wed Dec 3rd for any new work being assigned & completed
- Redo & Retake Contracts will not be assigned down the stretch from Nov 22nd on, as
students will be expected to immediately work with their teachers if they want to redo or
rewrite an assessment
- Dec 4th & 5th are Intervention support days:
o Students who have all of their assessments completed and are passing all of their
classes do not have to come to school these two days (Dec 4th & 5th)
o Students who have Redo & Retake Contracts to complete and/or assessments to
redo/rewrite from Nov 22nd on will need to be at MHS these two days
- Dec 4th & 5th are not for making up assessments/ work from Sept & Oct
- EACH STUDENT will need to have a permission slip signed by each of their teachers and
their parent/guardian in order to miss Dec 4th & 5th (Teachers will only sign if everything is
in and satisfactory!)
- Dec 4th & 5th are for students in difficulty who may also need to attend Credit Recovery
School (CRS) in grades 10-12 as 9th grade students already have an intervention program
built into their schedule
- CRS is after school from 2:05 to 4:05 and will start on Dec 15th and finish on Jan 8th.
Three cheers – Go to our student body for the respect they demonstrated at our Veteran’s Day Assembly
on Thursday, November 6, 2014. I am glad to share that our guests shared many positive words! Well-done
MHS is Hosting the All State Band & Chorus Festival – This coming Friday and Saturday, 11/21/14 and
11/22/14. Over 30 schools from across the state will be at MHS! Best of luck to all participants and to all
members of “Mustang Nation” who will be volunteering their time, as your assistance is very much
We have more iPad apps – Showing up on our iPads each day, which we believe are not appropriate.
Whisper is a social media app that allows users to post anonymous comments. Like YikYak, Whisper is
known to be a tool for bullying in schools. vShare is designed to download paid apps for free, breaking
licensing laws. We ask that these apps be off iPads immediately! We will restrict these apps on Monday
morning, tomorrow. Any iPad with Whisper or vShare will lock down after the restriction settings are
put into place. A complete list of removed apps can be found on the RSU 57 Technology Website.
Biddeford Savings Bank – Has joined with Southern Maine Health Care to contribute to our Project
Aware Campaign! Their donations will be used to help fund the creation of a student directed and acted
video focusing on bullying and suicide prevention. Thanks very much!
Financial Aid Night – For Seniors will be held on Thursday, December 4th from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM in
the auditorium. Our guest presenter will be Jami Jandreau, Assistant Financial Aid Director for University
of Southern Maine.
Thanks for reading the above!
Very truly yours,
Christian M. Elkington
