Message to students 3/14/16

posted Mar 14, 2016, 5:05 AM by Massabesic highschool
Hi All! Hope you were able to get out and enjoy some time outside the last two days. They were glorious!

I want to first take a moment to thank the student body for your overall follow-through of those areas of concern we started re-emphasizing this last week. For a majority of you it was not a change at all and you have just continued following the expectations we had previously. For those of you needing a little redirection thanks very much for your added assistance!

When we last met I mentioned that we were looking at the possibility of a slight schedule change. We have decided to move forward with a schedule change that will give you a little more time between Blk 2 and Advisory so that you can use the bathroom or grab a snack etc... This change is being made by taking one minute from each of our 4 blocks on both Green or White Days. Attached is the new schedule.

You will see that Blk 1 ends at 8:44 instead of 8:45 and that Blk 2 now starts at 8:50 instead of 8:51, with other adjustments following that. These changes are being made so that between Blk 2 & Advisory the following will now occur:

- There will be ten minutes instead of 6
- 8 mins into this new 10 minute break you will hear two quick bells, which will ring with a different tone
- The two bells are a warning to head directly towards and into your class
- Even though there is a little more time YOU are still expected to head towards the building you have advisory in after the end of blk 2
- A regular bell will ring at 10:14, the beginning of Advisory.

Several high schools have a little extra time, mid-morning like this, to allow students and staff a few extra minutes for personal needs. It is something we should have done before, but haven't.

This change will now give you and our staff a little longer break after the first two blocks of the day. With Blk 3 having your lunch break you will now have ample opportunity to take care of most personal needs without interrupting class time.

This schedule change starts tomorrow, Monday March 14th.

I hope each of you has a wonderful week!

My best,
Christian Elkington, Principal
