Dear Parents and Guardians of the Class of 2016:

I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you who were able for attending Course Selection and Curriculum and Activity Nights. As we shared with you we were quite pleased with your turnout! This showed us the commitment that the Class of 2016 will bring with it to Massabesic High School. As you now know first hand the transition process to high school for both your incoming freshmen and you will be both exciting as well as a somewhat stressful. We look forward to our work together being smooth as the turnout for these events, along with the return of Freshman Course Selection Sheets, demonstrates your commitment to working as a team. We thank you for your follow-through. Two other items I want to review with you:

1.)   MHS Freshman Planning Handbook “Continuing Your Journey” – There is much to adjust to and learn about as your son or daughter begins their transition to MHS. This handbook is designed to provide you with information that will help make the transition smooth and hopefully contribute to your son or daughter’s educational success. In these pages you will find contact information, helpful school resources, an overview of expectations along with communication tips. We hope you will use this handbook as a support during the summer and coming school year. If you did not get a copy it is available on line for your review and to download.

2.)   MHS Web Site – You will find many pieces of information and publications from this present school year such as: Honored Students, letters to parents, “Have You Heard,” our Guidance page and other items of interest. Please visit often to stay informed and celebrate student success at MHS!

I believe strongly that the most important key to a successful 9th grade year is in working together. As both a parent and a former teacher, I have found that successful teaching and successful parenting have much in common, especially when it comes to communication. Whenever you have questions or concerns, PLEASE use the contact information included in our handbook to contact us; two-way communication shared by home and school ensures no one goes unnoticed. My next set of communications with you will be when we send student schedules home at the beginning of June.

As principal of Massabesic High School, I want you to know that we are here to work with you. We listen to your thoughts and concerns and make changes based on our own continuous learning. The introduction of the Freshman Handbook two years ago was based on meeting new needs identified by parents, guardians and staff.

Let me again take this opportunity to welcome you to Massabesic High School!  I look forward to our working together in support of every one of our students!

Very truly yours,

Christian Elkington
