Students in 5th grade at AES finished a math project on fractions. This project required students to create a unique pizza that included assorted toppings to represent different fractions of the whole pizza. They had to show three equivalent fractions for each of the toppings and write two word stories about their pizza fractions! They enjoyed a pizza party afterwards to celebrate their hard work. Thank you to our Nutrition Department, Ms. Dyer & Ms. Herrin, for helping us with this project!

On Friday, a representative and her furry friend from "No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry" visited AES classrooms as part of our 'One School One Book' week. Our visitors read a chapter from "Fenway & Hattie" and spoke to our students about her work and caring for animals in need. We collected donations and presented them to her upon her arrival. A special thank you to our community for the generous gifts to our animal friends and a thank you to our OSOB committee for planning such a fun event!

Students in PK-2 and 3-5 at AES had the opportunity today to visit with the author of "Fenway & Hattie" (our schoolwide book that we are currently reading for our "One School One Book" event). Students had the opportunity to learn about the author and how she developed her story. They also had the opportunity for a question and answer session. Students were so respectful, engaged and excited. I even heard a few say, "I want to write a book!"...that is the greatest response you can hope for when hosting an event such as this! Thanks to our RSU community & PTSA for making this experience possible!

During April Break, nine RSU 57 Transportation Department staff attended the Maine Association of Pupil Transport Conference, including Director of Transportation Richie Newton. Drivers, mechanics, and directors from throughout Maine discussed topics about maintaining a safe and respectful transportation environment for students and drivers; including complacency, health and wellness, and the error chain of effect. A driving skills competition was also held, and we are proud to announce that our very own mechanic Mark Bryant placed third, and will go on to the state championship! Mark has been with RSU 57 for one and a half years and we are so grateful to have him on our team!

It is with great excitement and pride that we announce the recipients of the Model Mustang Staff Award for the month of April! This award is a tribute to those outstanding individuals who embody the qualities of a true “Model Mustang”; they inspire, lead, foster positivity, persevere, and excel in all that they do. Each Model Mustang was nominated by colleagues who took the time to acknowledge and celebrate their coworkers’ exceptional contributions to our district. Their hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and we are grateful for the positive impact they have within RSU 57! This month's winner is Jackie Chaplin from Alfred Elementary! "Jackie is a leader in our building through and through. She volunteers in a multitude of ways to support a variety of areas in our school. This includes direct instruction, individualized student support, community outreach, school-wide positive behavioral support implementation and "in the moment" help when needed. She always goes the extra mile, especially when she knows it will benefit our school community and is in the best interest of our kids. :) Thank you Jackie for all that you give, please know how appreciated you are!" As a bus driver, I have the freedom to enjoy summers, holidays, and weekends off. It’s been a game-changer! I can finally enjoy life outside of work on my own terms and spend quality time with my family.
Having great healthcare and dental coverage means I can breathe easy knowing I’m covered when I need it. It’s like a safety net that lets me focus on doing what I love without any added stress. Big thumbs up to RSU 57 for looking out for their drivers!
Transporting kids from kindergarten to graduation isn't just a job; it's a privilege. As the first face students see in the morning, I know I'm setting the stage for their success. Over the years, I’ve gotten to really know the students and their families and those relationships are part of what makes being a bus driver so special.
Working as a bus driver at RSU 57 is ideal for me as a parent. The convenient commute and schedule align perfectly with my family's needs, allowing me to be there for my kids while still pursuing a fulfilling career. It's the best of both worlds!
