Massabesic High School's NJROTC program toured Maine Maritime Academy earlier this month. Cadets participated in hands-on activities aboard the 61-foot, 102 year old, wooden hulled schooner Bowdoin. They also learned about celestial navigation in MMA's planetarium and explored wet and diesel engine practical laboratories.
Additionally, on September 27, NJROTC provided Color Guard and Honor Guard to Army Sergeant Victor Acox, who will celebrate his 99th birthday next month. Cadets were asked to sign a commemorative flag along with combat veterans and supporters who were present. MHS Seniors Bryce and Brayden Emerson, Sophomore Dan Harriman and Freshman Grace Shipman volunteered for this event.
You can support our cadets and NJROTC program by attending any of the upcoming events below:

CONGRATULATIONS TO THREE OUTSTANDING MHS STUDENTS!
Hunter Van Brocklin (12) has been chosen by Maine Educators of Gifted and Talented (MEGAT) as the winner of the statewide student "Passionate Changemaker Award". He'll give a speech and accept his award at the state conference on Oct 27 with his family in attendance.
Jacob Lebrun (12) and Walker Vivian (10) wrote winning essays last year for the AMVETS National "Americanism" contest. After advancing from local to state finals, Monica W. just received word on Friday that they WON at the National level! This means that they have been selected to attend the 2023 Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference at no cost to them in Valley Forge, PA, November 2-5, 2023.
We are incredibly proud of Hunter, Jacob, and Walker!

Due to the extended time that it takes Pre-K and Kindergarten students in learning their dismissal procedures (in the early going of the school year) we are going to dismiss from Block 6 ten minutes earlier (1:39 pm) TODAY (Tuesday) and TOMORROW (Wednesday). This will allow additional time for the elementary school bus runs to load during their dismissals for our youngest learners.
1. We will make an announcement for dismissal at or around 1:39 for the FIRST WAVE (as soon as buses arrive from the middle school).
2. We will announce the dismissal for the SECOND WAVE as soon as buses are in place.
3. Walkers, drivers, and parent pick-ups will be allowed to leave at the announcement of the FIRST WAVE dismissal.
Reminder, this is for TODAY and TOMORROW only. I apologize for announcing this late in the game, so to speak. Picture day, in all its glory, has gotten the best of me.

Good Evening RSU 57 Community,
Today, RSU 57 excitedly welcomed over 1,900 students in grades 1-9 for their first day of school. The success of today could not have been possible without the diligence of our educators, administrators and staff in our Transportation, Nutrition and Maintenance departments. Additionally, we are grateful for the efforts of parents and caregivers as they continue to support our students’ learning in this new year.
RSU 57 looks forward to welcoming back students in grades 10-12 tomorrow, August 31 and our youngest students in Pre-K and Kindergarten on September 5.
Here’s to a wonderful 2023-2024 school year.
My Best,
Stephen D. Marquis, PhD.
