The pinning ceremony celebrates the commitment, compassion, and dedication required to care for others and recognizes the outstanding achievements of students within the program.

Last night, the RSU 57 School Board recognized the MHS Class of 2024 Top Ten Students as well as four outstanding educators.
Mr. Ty Thurlow shared the outstanding achievements of Zoey Storm, Sydney Duncan, Neveah Bartlett, Rebecca Hanlon, David Curtis, Marleigh Roy, Matt Letellier, Maya Beneszewski, Lucas Caron and Evelyn Hamilton. Students in attendance were joined and celebrated by their friends and family.
Mr. Tim O'Connor, Director of Special Services commended School Psychologist Megg Waddell, who received the Early Career Practitioner Award from the Maine Association of School Psychologists, for the positive impact she has had within RSU 57.
Mr. O'Connor also recognized Special Education teacher Danielle Swasey, who was nominated for the York County Teacher of the Year Award for her unwavering commitment to the success of her students.
Mr. Tim Stinson recognized PE teacher Samantha Person who was named the MaineAHPERD 2023 Elementary PhysEd Teacher of the Year Award and who makes health and wellness fun and engaging for students at Waterboro Elementary and beyond.
Finally, Mr. Thurlow recognized MHS Band Teacher Drew Halpin-Desmarais who received the Maine Music Educator Association's Outstanding New Music Teacher of the Year Award and who has made a lasting impact in the lives of students in his classroom and throughout MHS.

This award is a tribute to those outstanding individuals who embody the qualities of a true “Model Mustang”; they inspire, lead, foster positivity, persevere, and excel in all that they do. Each Model Mustang was nominated by colleagues who took the time to acknowledge and celebrate their coworkers’ exceptional contributions to our district. Their hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and we are grateful for the positive impact they have within RSU 57! This month's raffle winner is Kevin Harvey from Technology!

Massabesic High School celebrated Senior Signing Day on Friday, May 17. Over 100 graduating seniors signed letters of intent that revealed their plans and goals for the next year which included joining the military, entering the workforce, attending college, and taking time to pursue their passions. We are incredibly proud of these students, their achievements, and future aspirations. This event marked a wonderful kickoff to the start of graduation season!

On May 14, 36 cadets from the RSU 57 MHS Navy JROTC embarked on an exciting field trip to South Portland, where they toured Sector Northern New England and set sail on the Cutter Thunder Bay. This memorable experience allowed the cadets who went underway to earn the prestigious Sea Cruise ribbon to proudly display on their uniforms. This inaugural visit marks the beginning of a promising partnership, paving the way for future opportunities and experiences for our cadets. We extend a special thank you to LT Pamela Manns of Sector Northern New England and LT Brian Hagerty of Cutter Thunder Bay for their invaluable partnership and dedication to our cadets.

This weekend, more than 350 MHS students attended Prom 2024 and enjoyed an evening of music, photographs, dancing, and laughter. Thank you to our MHS staff volunteers and students for making the event a safe and enjoyable event for all in attendance. The Class of 2025 did a great job hosting this event and helping to provide memorable moments for all.
RSU 57’s PK-7 Outreach and Attendance Coordinator Ms. Megan Wakefield was recently featured in a story on News Center Maine about the prevalence of food insecurity in York County. Collaborating with Youth Full Maine, the RSU 57 Community Closet provides low-barrier access to food and all-season clothing for students and families in need. Youth Full Maine brings food donations to our Community Closet which is available to all students and families within RSU 57. Additionally, RSU 57’s “Backpack Program” makes food accessible to students at each school or on an as-needed basis through our . To schedule a time to “shop” the closet or to learn about additional supports, please contact Ms. Wakefield via email at meganwakefield@rsu57.org. Students who are experiencing unstable housing under the McKinney-Vento Act may be eligible to receive specifically requested items such as winter gear and school supplies.
