Massabesic High School Athletic Announcements- Friday 2-25 SPRING SPORTS REGISTRATIONS We are currently awaiting an announcement from the Maine Principals Association regarding guidelines for High School Spring Sports Seasons. Due to meetings planned at the MPA next week we are expecting to have these guidelines by Friday. If the traditional timelines remain in place MHS Baseball and Softball pitchers and catchers will begin practices on Monday March 22nd with the remaining High School sports will begin the following Monday March 29th. The start date for middle school spring sports would be Monday April 5th. Moving forward with spring sports for the middle school is being considered and in order to make informed decisions and make logistical plans it would be helpful, at both schools, to understand the number of students participating. In anticipation of approval to move forward with a spring sports seasons REVTRAK will open for registrations on Friday March 5th. We strongly encourage all students interested in participating to get registered immediately. The information will be critical in making decisions particularly for middle school programming. Please register as soon as you can to help us with this process. Great news regarding deserved accolades for MHS Freshman, Hunter VanBrocklin, having been selected to receive an engraved bronze Distinguished Finalist medallion in The 2021 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for his outstanding volunteer work! Additionally, based on the number of volunteer hours indicated on hia application last fall, Hunter qualified for the President’s Volunteer Service Award! This award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.

Congratulations go out to two MHS freshmen for winning first and second place in this year's AMVETs essay contest held here in Southern Maine. Eliza Lowell and Gianna Thibeault took first and second place for their patriotic essays to the prompt "What Do I Think of When I See the American Flag?". The ladies' essays have advanced to the state level for judging. The girls were awarded a full sized flag and post along with a cash prize.

Given the severity of the youth vaping epidemic and its threat to our kids, we know this is an ongoing issue for schools and communities. Athletics / Activities Update- 1-2-21 Happy New Year! Here is to 2021 being a drastic improvement from 2020! As many of you are aware the State County review which occurred Thursday has once again placed York County in the Yellow color designation which means there will be no in person meetings after school hours for clubs, activities and athletics. It was announced the next review will come on January 14th. In the mean time we will not be able to hold in person meetings, practices or games. We appreciate the frustration this causes and how much our kids need these programs as an outlet. We will continue to be prepared to go when we get the "Green" light. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to getting back at it as soon as it is safe to do so.
